Vuka

Our Story

+Vuka : Mission

Vuka is a community space for event rentals and coworking and serves as a community hub in South Austin.  The word Vuka means “to awaken” in Zulu. As a converted warehouse in the heart of the city with handmade nature-inspired interiors, Vuka provides a unique place for people “to gather, connect, and create”.

+Vuka : History

Vuka was founded in 2012 by a group of visionary Austinites who saw the need for an inspiring community space.  The founder’s vision was to create a modern day community center that could host a wide array of events, workshops, and classes as well as provide a creative workspace.

+Vuka : Purpose

By day, Vuka is a creative coworking space. Members use Vuka as an alternative to the office or local coffee shop.  Members experience what it is like to be part of a working creative community. Membership is diverse attracting web developers, graphic designers, artists, entrepreneurs, bloggers, writers, and social advocates. Vuka also provides space for meetings, conferences and workshops for businesses, nonprofits, and local, national, and international companies.

By night, Vuka transforms in to an event venue hosting weddings, fundraisers, movie premiers, parties, and corporate events.  Notable past events include an antique car show hosted by Alpine Stars for Formula One, staff parties for Alamo Drafthouse, a membership recruitment event for Wheatsville Co-op among several weddings, birthday parties, holiday events, and fundraisers.

The space is filled with vintage furniture and creatively reused materials.  All furnishings and interiors are for sale, allowing members and event attendees to take home a special Vuka keepsake.
